Did Apple release a secret MacBook/Pro Firmware update that enables 8GB RAM config?

MacSales may have uncovered a secret firmware update that will allow older MacBooks and MBPros to use 8GB of RAM.
In late 2009, an EFI Firmware Update was released to address the buzzing noises coming from the optical drive. However, it seems that somewhere along the line, Apple changed this update without notating it anywhere.
Whether any other elements were affected by this change is undetermined, but it did change memory addressing; with the later version of the update installed, you could address a full 8GB in Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, Software Update doesn’t show this version as being different from the previous one, so users wouldn’t be notified if they had already updated their firmware to the older version.
The information originated in Mac Forums.
That means if you want to add 8GB of RAM, and you have one of the affected models, you can upgrade your computer to 8GB of RAM.
  • MacBook 13.3″ 2.0GHz and 2.4GHz
  • MacBook Pro 15″ 2.4GHz (All)
  • MacBook Pro 15″ 2.53GHz model w/ExpressCard Slot (Late 2008)
  • MacBook Pro 15″ 2.8GHz model w/ExpressCard Slot (Late 2008)
Here’s how: check the Boot ROM Version in your System Profiler.
  • MacBook Pros with a Model ID of MacBookPro5,1 should have a Boot ROM Version of MBP51.007E.B05.
  • MacBooks with a Model ID of MacBook5,1 should have  a Boot ROM version of MB51.007D.B03
  • Machines with other Model IDs are not affected and don’t need an update.
If your Boot ROM version does not match the numbers above, download the appropriate firmware updater for your model machine and install according to the instructions:
This is a pretty incredible find, we’re not so sure why it wasn’t made public earlier.  Oh and here’s 8GB of RAM for $90 which may help out a few of you this morning.

Is Best Buy going to iPad for Easy Pay?

The rumor at Forbes is that Best Buy is going to buy each of its employees in its 1100 US locations an iPad as part of its Connected Store program.  That in itself is significant, if true.  Best Buy has sold the iPad since its inception last year and the program would not only sell lots of iPads to Best Buy, but it would also give the Apple tablets much more exposure in a more and more crowded tablet space.
A source with knowledge of corporate mobile device deployments tells Forbes that one of the country’s top 10 largest retailers expects to distribute iPads to each of its on-floor sales associates. This retailer, the source adds, operates 1,100 stores across the U.S. As the country’s largest electronics retailer — as well as a retailer that currently operates around 1,100 stores in the U.S. — Best Buy is a natural match.
It would be even more interesting is if Best Buy used those iPads as Easy Pay systems like those of GAP and of course Apple Stores. iPads have been showing up as Payment systems all over the place in the year since its launch so it seems like a great idea to us!

Been on any of Geohot websites? Sony Tracks your IP...

Sony is acting like a crazy guy. It looks like Sony will never stop fighting against PS3 jailbreakers especially Geohot. A federal magistrate is granting Sony the right to obtain the IP addresses of anyone who visited the web presences of hardware hacker George Hotz between January 2009 and the present day.
Not only that, Sony has also got the right to get data from YouTube, Google and Twitter. In case you have visited Geohot.com, which has been posted on it PS3 jailbreak keys, you may be sued by Sony.

Besides, Sony will get the IP of anyone who watches Geohot channel on YouTube. Anyone who's downloaded the jailbreak.zip file from Geohot's site would be got by Sony.

Homefront Multiplayer Carnage Trailer

This new Homefront trailer has revamped my interest in the game. The story by John Milius, who co-wrote Apocalypse Now and wrote Red Dawn, peaked my interest from the very beginning, but now, I’m definitely on board to pick this up. The game will be released on March 15th in the US. The only thing that worries me is that there is no beta, nor a demo planned for release. Hopefully there won’t be major bugs with the initial release.

MLB 11’s New Pure Analog Hitting System

This will be the last MLB entry, as this Tuesday, we will finally have it in our hands.
Ramone Russell // Community Manager, SCEA San Diego Studios stopped by the official Sony Blog and dropped a video, and some last minute info on the new hitting system.
To use the new Pure Analog Hitting system, simply pull back on the R-stick to stride and push forward in the direction of the incoming pitch to drive through the ball. Be sure to time your stride just as the pitcher releases the ball, a poorly timed stride will result in a less powerful swing. Don’t try to hold your stride back just waiting for the pitch — you’ll lose power! Time it like a real swing and begin your stride as the pitcher’s getting ready to deliver.
With a little practice, you’ll be piling up the RBIs in no time! And don’t forget, there’s only a few days left to pre-order MLB 11 The Show on PlayStation 3 for a FREE 30 day trial of Premium MLB.TV.
Welcome to The Show!
That is it for the MLB videos. Hopefully I have sold you on what appears to be the sports game of the year.

Battlefield 3 Leaked Gameplay

Video looks to be recorded with some kind of cell phone device, maybe a secret video at GDC? Better view it quick before EA tears it down off of youtube. Looks pretty promising for a crappy quality video camera. My favorite part was either the life like building collapsing on top of the soldier’s head, or the jet gameplay near the end was pretty intense. What part did you enjoy the most?

Chrome’s Latest Browser Upgrade

This month we celebrate the second birthday of Google Chrome and just being its two years, it is now ready to give off an advanced and updated version and that is the Chrome 6. Now judging from this quick upgrade, one can understand that Chrome has been rocking the world of browsing and has definitely secured third position after IE and Firefox.
Just in August, Chrome had 7.5% of the browser market and by May it had a whooping status of 70million dedicated users. In awe of this astounding success, Chrome announced its release of version 6, which as the company officials define as being more “faster and more streamlined”. Users can expect some fantastic changes and can have more flexibility using the browser as there will be a “minimalist user interface” and a merging of two menus, with options for having personalized color schemes.

Google definitely wants to enhance its browsing experience more than ever by enhancing graphic performance and fantastic apps for the best browsing experience.
HTML 5 Implementation
Chrome 6 is out all to support the latest enhancement of HTML, the HTML 5. Of all the browsers now, Chrome is supposedly the first one to support HTML 5. And, this is not only sticking up for desktop browsing, but also for Android OS Smartphone users too. So, regardless of whether you have a desktop or an Android OS, you can access the full functionality of Chrome 6 and enjoy its benefits. Aiming to reach mobile users of Smartphone and the featured phones, Chrome OS as well as Chrome browsers will be the next big thing in the online world.

Microsoft Launches Internet Explorer Beta Version

After a lot of expectation, Microsoft has finally launched the first public version of Internet Explorer 9 which is a beta version. The new Explorer has some pretty amazing and impressive features and is ready for the users to give their feedbacks.
The new version of Explorer was announced on the official blog of Internet Explorer that is IE Developer Blog on Wednesday. The new version Explorer Public Beta 1 adds a multitude of features to the already existing browser arsenal of Microsoft. The most noticeable feature is the graphics acceleration which has been enabled in the new browser by default to give a speedier experience to the users.

Moreover, the user’s interface has been overhauled as well, with mechanics of pinning added in the browser similar to the Window 7 pinning feature for the applications. This new pinning feature in Explorer allows the users to pin the sites to the taskbar. Microsoft has taken somewhat an overhead from the Google Chrome interface by using this pinning feature, so that the sites which are pinned to the taskbar provide OS-embedded alerts forcing the users to keep an eye on these sites.
According to the team behind the IE9 development, the lightweight look is basically cutout to provide the users with a smoother web experience so that the users can direct their attention to the sites instead of browser.
All those who have been an avid fan of the Aero Snap feature of Microsoft’s Windows 7 which allows the Windows to automatically size up according to the space available on the desktop, will be very over joyous because the new IE9 also holds the same feature that is sizing up the tabs according to the space available on the browser screen.
Beautyoftheweb.com is the site where the Windows users can download the beta version of the browser. After the installation, Microsoft offers a test drive for the users and the walkthrough designed to showcase the various new features.

How To Customize Windows 7 Powered System

Windows platform has evolved from the basic design schematics to a totally new design outlook. Windows Vista by Microsoft was somewhat a flop story and at the enterprise level Windows Vista is marred with numerous bugs and errors. At the business level, Windows XP was still the choice of masses till the release of Windows 7.
Windows 7 has been regarded, by the industry analysts, as the future of operating systems and it is also been labeled as the operating system by Microsoft marred with less errors and bugs. We always want to express our uniqueness one way or the other, so these uniqueness instincts have enabled design and fashion to reach all corners of our everyday lives.
Microsoft’s latest Windows 7 provides users multitude of internal options that can change the look and feel of your PC powered by Windows 7. It is very much easy to give your operating system a new look and at the same time improve and enhance the experience of users. Good thing about Microsoft Windows 7 is its ability to provide users with loads of coolest ways to customize the Windows, and the best part about this customization is that users don’t have to mess with the programming values and also they don’t have to toy around with additional software programs as well.
Some of the processes you can employ to dress up your Windows 7 copy as well as make your system visual are as follows:
Welcome Screen
For the welcome screen there are two basic domains with which you can toy around and give some custom effect to the welcome screen. First off, you can change the profile picture displayed on your Windows Welcome Screen. Then you can employ hacking software or a tweak that would change the background image of the Windows Welcome Screen.
The process of changing the profile picture is pretty simple; go to Start Menu bar and type the ‘user’s account’ in the text bar tagged as Search Program and Files. Now open the respective entry, under the Control Panel tab. When this is done, select ‘change your picture’. You can select a default saved picture or click ‘browse’ for more pictures option and at the end of the list you can access your personal files. Once the picture is selected, user should click the ‘image change’ button and viola! Picture displayed at your welcome screen is changed.
If you want to use a tool rather than doing it manually, you can do it too. If you are tech savvy, my recommendation is to do it on your own. Doing it manually will save you time and moreover it also gives the access to further log-in page and you can toy around with more customization processes.
DeskTop Gadgets
Well those who are not conversant with these gadgets, these are tiny tools that are displayed on your desktop. They add more dimensions to your functionality and they also allow users to complete task without launching any product. Some of the most popular Windows 7 Gadgets include:

1.  Clip board Manager: is a very useful gadget that allows users to manage their clipboard history and furthermore search previous entries and store their favorite clips.
2.  Skype Windows 7 Gadget: allows users to have a curtailed version of Skype interface on your PC; it also saves space.
3.  One another amazing gadget is Magic Folder; it allows users to automatically sort out the files into their pre-designated folders based on the extension that files have.
In order to discover and browse these gadgets you  can also view Windows Live Gadget Gallery that houses some of the most coolest and amazing gadgets. If you want to launch gadgets that are already present in your system, go to Start Menu and type Desktop Gadgets into that bar; it will open the respective entry.
Windows Theme
By far changing the theme on Windows 7 will indeed have the greatest impact on the system in terms of looks and feels. The process is pretty simple; right click on the desktop and then select the personalize option. Now you can select a theme already present on the hard disk or can download new and exciting themes online. Moreover, there are some software programs which allow you to design even your own themes.
Desktop Slide Show
To improve visuals on Windows 7, you can add variety to the desktop of your Windows Copy. You can add photos and create a custom slideshow that will change the displayed wallpaper on regular intervals.
In order to do this, you have to ‘right click’ on the desktop, select the ‘Personalize’ option and then click on the ‘Desktop Background’. Now in order to make a custom slideshow, you have to select the image site from the drop down menu that will display on your screen.
Adding Toolbar To the Displayed Taskbar
Adding a toolbar is also a step that can further improve the visuals of your Windows and can enable the instant access to the programs that are used often; an example is Windows Media player. The process is very simple; you have to right click on the taskbar and expand toolbars and mark the programs you like to use often. If you are mourning about Windows XP quick launch bar then don’t lose hope because there is a hack as well that can bring that very useful bar back. By using all the above mentioned methods, you can give your Windows 7 a totally new look.

Amazon amazing Offer: Droid Phones for a Penny

This year has been all about Smartphones; all the major tech giants in the industry are trying frantically to grab a large chunk of the market share by launching their variants of Smartphones. According to a popular analyst company Nielsen, Smartphone will essentially become a must to have gadget in the times to come.
Android is increasingly becoming a dominant force in the Smartphone industry; the Google’s open source mobile OS is becoming the choice of masses. It is gradually coming at par with the likes of Blackberry and Apple’s iPhones. One of the many reasons of Android’s success, the most vital is the availability and variety of Android powered phones. You can get a Motorola phone, a Samsung phone or even a LG phone that is powered by Android at a very nominal rate, so this means that you can get hands on with large variety of cellphones.
Recently, the mega online store, Amazon started giving an amazing offer; Amazon is currently giving all the Droid Phones for just a penny whenever a new customer signs for a contract with Verizon for a new wireless connection. This particular deal holds good for the complete Verizon’s Droid Phones series including the latest Droid Pro and its predecessor Droid X starting from November 22. All customers who will be opting for a new connection will also be getting a $35 credit that will almost cover up the complete cost of activating that particular Droid Phone.

It seems, there is a sheer competition going on between all the carriers that is sparking a race on the price front. According to many analysts in the Smartphone prone industry, this kind of deal is a far cry from $199 magic price point that has been there for so long. Amazon kicked off this amazing campaign of Smartphone for-a-penny way back in August when it first shaved off the price of Samsung Vibrant to almost 1 cent. Same goes for the Windows Phone 7 deals as Amazon offered 2 Windows Phone 7 powered phones including LG Quantum and HTC Surround for the same 1 cent deal, hooked up with a 2-year contract from AT&T. Last week some special deals were also included for handsets, powered by Blackberry, Palm Models.
Although, it looks very difficult to beat a lucrative 1 cent deal, but this deal is only applicable for the new accounts. All the current customers already running on these carriers denied this deal. All the customers who are eligible for an up-gradation can extend their contracts and get new phones on huge discounted price i.e. $49.99. But any consumer who is not eligible for this trade-up will be paying the full charges. Right now the price of Droid X on Amazon is almost $599.99. Representative of Verizon wireless declined to give any comments on the offer by Amazon.
Other Offers
Another very popular online store BestBuy is also offering a very special deal for the Droid Phones. Although, BestBuy deal is not like one-penny special deal but the online retailer is offering the Droid Pro phone for just $99.99 to all the existing Verizon customers who are already bonded in a two-year contract. This deal means that the existing customers will get almost $80 off from the deal that others are offering. It is still an early speculation that how low this price war will go in the Smartphone prone market as the retailers and carriers are constantly racing for market dominance with lucrative offers. Ultimately, Smartphones will become a throw-in kind of incentive for the customers who will opt for certain wireless connections.
There are exceptions as well, like Apple iPhone which you won’t find in the bargain bin race. This is primarily of the reason that Tech giant Apple does not allow its devices to be sold for a price less than the sticker price, that is universal everywhere.

Sony’s Advent With Google TV

Recently, Sony announced fully detailed versions of LCD TVs and Blu-ray player. Both products claim to be the first inventions equipped with Google TV. Selling price of Sony TV estimates at $599-$1399 on assize range of 24-46 inch, to be shipped starting from October 16, while the Blu-ray player stands at $400.

Sony’s NSZ-GT1 Google TV-equipped Blu-ray Player

Both Sony TVs and Blu-ray player have a unique remote controlled key board to control your AV system devices, hence giving you a built-in chrome browser for a thrilling web surfing experience. The Google TV promises to integrate video content, be it from cable, net, satellite or antenna onto one screen which is easy to search like the Google.com. This new Sony system requires no additional box, like the Logitech Revue, to integrate Google service onto your LCD TV. However, Sony is still working on making available streaming videos and music available from your networked devices or PC.

Sony Internet TVs

The Sony NSX-GT1 series called by Sony as the “Sony Internet TV, will inevitably be known as “The Google TV,”. It claims to be the world’s first HDTV powered by Google as advertised.

Sony NSX-GT1 series (Google TV)

All TVs have 4 each of HDMI and USB inputs with a built-in 802.11N Wi-Fi. This configuration makes for a free use without running an Ethernet cable around.

Sony TVs work similar to the logic Revue box if you plug it in via HDMI. Your TV feed is then overlaid by Google TV service and appears as part of Sony’s Dual view. The TV offers over the air HDTV reception with its ATSC tuner so you get local channel listings with your Google TV search. Infra red emitters are used by a cable box, controlled by the TV, to power up, switch channel and schedule DVR recordings. A second IR emitter controls devises like home theater system.
Sony’s unique remote works like PS3 game controller with a full QWERTY key board as well as thumbs- only operated touchpad. You only need this remote to command your other gears and use radio frequency to interface with your TV.

Sony Internet TV Blu-ray player

The Blu-ray player is operational just like the TV except for the ATSC absence. It comes with a slot-loading Blu-ray drive and commands other devices as well. A single HDMI input enables Google TV overlay. However an additional feature is easy searching of Meta information like video or music from inserted discs.

Google TV software

The idea behind it is to search all your TV content via a toolbar like google.com. Initially the Google TV software supports streaming media services like You-tube, Pandora, Napsters and the likes. There are also built-in apps for Twitter, NBA, CNBC and HBO.
The biggest selling point however is the ability to access videos and music on websites directly through your TV. Virtually the entire World Wide Web is there for you to embrace in your Google TV.

Nintendo 3DS released in Japan

So the Nintendo 3DS has finally be released in Japan and to no surprise, they are already out of stock, they were provided with 400,000 Nintendo 3DS to provide to, well the population of Japan and on the day of the 3Ds launch, they ran out, it was pretty obvious this was going to happen and if the 3Ds is a hit, it is going to change the world of portable gaming, so that’s probably why everyone over in Japan was so keen to get their hands on a Nintendo 3DS.

Sony NGP Is NOT Going To Be A Portable PS3

There has been a ton of hype about the Sony NGP, it’s one of the biggest problems with new releases for products, because most of the time the companies involved, in this case Sony want to try and keep as many details hidden/secret and just release everything at once, it causes a ton of rumours, lots of leaked information and a ton of guessing. Sony were originally fine with everyone thinking the NGP is going to be, like nearly as good as PS3 is, I mean people obviously thought Sony have had a break though in portable gaming and they’ve been able to make a portable PS3, oh we were wrong.
Sony NGP 11
Sony NGP 11
David Coombes who is a platform research manager has released a couple of “clear ups” for us, the first and most obviously, the Sony NGP is not going to be a portable PS3, can you see them running it at 2GHZ and having a decent battery life? Maybe if they figured out how to make amazingly powerful batteries, but they haven’t, it would apparently last 5 minutes running at 2GHZ, combined with the fact it would be running so hot and probably end up setting you on life and obviously Sony can’t have products which will over-heat, catch on fire and burn you.

The Second Generation Of iPads Is On It’s Way, The iPad 2

It was yesterday that Apple told us all about the iPad 2, which is the second generation of the worlds most popular tablet system, it’s got a load of new features and improved hardware, which is what we like to see from Apple! Upgrading their devices to make them more powerful, with more features and so on! So what is new in the iPad 2? What does it have that the iPad 1 doesn’t have?
The iPad 2
The iPad 2
To start with, it’s thinner and lighter, which is great considering the first iPad wasn’t even heavy and it was already thin, then on top of that, Apple are claiming to have doubled the speed of the iPad with their new A5 processor, which is meant to be twice as fast as the one in the first iPad, running at a nice 1GHZ, which should give everyone loads of power on their iPads.
