Don Omar Interview about FAST FIVE

May 5 PSN Still Down

PSN News Little Info:
The on going saga of the PlayStation network being hacked continues today with news of the company facing a class action law suit. With millions of Sony PlayStation users having their private information released by hackers it is no surprise lawyers are becoming involved. Also looking into this is the New York Attorney General, who wants Sony to be accountable for the breach of confidentiality that has occurred with the online users. The May 5th update still has the PlayStation network still down and plenty of gamers angry.
PlayStation Network Down
All of this started back in mid April when hackers attacked the network that has millions of members. Initially Sony just stated that their site was down, it wasn’t until a few days later when they admitted to being hacked. It was then revealed that the hackers got a hold of most of the users personal information. With each passing day that the PlayStation network is down users are becoming more and more frustrated with the lack of information Sony is releasing.
Sony has stated that no major credit card companies have reported unauthorized activity due to the illegal activity of the hackers on the network. However if you are a PlayStation network user it would be advisable to check your credit card statements to ensure that you have received any fraudulent charges. Changing your password and not responding to the Sony email phishing scams going on now are two more recommendations along with canceling the card used to sign up for the network. Make sure you check back daily for your update on the PlayStation network outage.

Osama Bin Laden Facebook Worm?

hat do Osama Bin Laden and Lady Gaga have in common? Both have been used in the last week to perpetuate video-based worms on social networking sites. A new Facebook virus is spreading via a message tempting users with a video of Osama Bin Laden's death. Following the link leads to a survey as well as a further propagation of the worm through newly infected accounts. There's no video.

Cybercriminals often take advantage of public curiosity over world events. The Osama viruses will not end with Facebook. Be on the lookout for emails, tweets, and instant messages soliciting clicks with the promise of Osama-related news.

What can you do to protect yourself? Be wary of things that doesn't seem right and do an Internet search when you suspect a fishy link. For instance you can do a Google news search for 'Osama death video' and look at the news results that come back. If it's a news-worthy clip, it'll likely be posted on the sites of major media outlets. Even if they don't post the clip, they'll likely be covering its existence.

Finally, make sure you have a well-rated Internet security software product installed. Many are adding Facebook-based detection tools and they can help prevent more serious viruses.

iPhone 5 Information

New reports have claimed that AT&T will not release the iPhone 5 this summer as anticipated.
“Apple has informed us that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July timeframe, though there will be a newer version in the future.
Unfortunately, we have not been given a release time for the new phone. We will release this information on our Web site when it is available to us”, said an AT&T representative.

Traditionally, previous models have been announced by Apple at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) that takes place in June of every year. However, there has been a lot of speculation that the company might hold the release of the next generation of iPhone until its September event that is usually iPod-centric.

Analysts have concluded that the production of the iPhone 5, which likely features an 8-megapixel camera, near-field communication technology, an improved antenna, an edge-to-edge screen, has not yet started and that Apple has been plagued by touch-screen shortages due to the earthquake that hit in Japan in March.

Did Apple release a secret MacBook/Pro Firmware update that enables 8GB RAM config?

MacSales may have uncovered a secret firmware update that will allow older MacBooks and MBPros to use 8GB of RAM.
In late 2009, an EFI Firmware Update was released to address the buzzing noises coming from the optical drive. However, it seems that somewhere along the line, Apple changed this update without notating it anywhere.
Whether any other elements were affected by this change is undetermined, but it did change memory addressing; with the later version of the update installed, you could address a full 8GB in Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, Software Update doesn’t show this version as being different from the previous one, so users wouldn’t be notified if they had already updated their firmware to the older version.
The information originated in Mac Forums.
That means if you want to add 8GB of RAM, and you have one of the affected models, you can upgrade your computer to 8GB of RAM.
  • MacBook 13.3″ 2.0GHz and 2.4GHz
  • MacBook Pro 15″ 2.4GHz (All)
  • MacBook Pro 15″ 2.53GHz model w/ExpressCard Slot (Late 2008)
  • MacBook Pro 15″ 2.8GHz model w/ExpressCard Slot (Late 2008)
Here’s how: check the Boot ROM Version in your System Profiler.
  • MacBook Pros with a Model ID of MacBookPro5,1 should have a Boot ROM Version of MBP51.007E.B05.
  • MacBooks with a Model ID of MacBook5,1 should have  a Boot ROM version of MB51.007D.B03
  • Machines with other Model IDs are not affected and don’t need an update.
If your Boot ROM version does not match the numbers above, download the appropriate firmware updater for your model machine and install according to the instructions:
This is a pretty incredible find, we’re not so sure why it wasn’t made public earlier.  Oh and here’s 8GB of RAM for $90 which may help out a few of you this morning.

Is Best Buy going to iPad for Easy Pay?

The rumor at Forbes is that Best Buy is going to buy each of its employees in its 1100 US locations an iPad as part of its Connected Store program.  That in itself is significant, if true.  Best Buy has sold the iPad since its inception last year and the program would not only sell lots of iPads to Best Buy, but it would also give the Apple tablets much more exposure in a more and more crowded tablet space.
A source with knowledge of corporate mobile device deployments tells Forbes that one of the country’s top 10 largest retailers expects to distribute iPads to each of its on-floor sales associates. This retailer, the source adds, operates 1,100 stores across the U.S. As the country’s largest electronics retailer — as well as a retailer that currently operates around 1,100 stores in the U.S. — Best Buy is a natural match.
It would be even more interesting is if Best Buy used those iPads as Easy Pay systems like those of GAP and of course Apple Stores. iPads have been showing up as Payment systems all over the place in the year since its launch so it seems like a great idea to us!
